Job vacancy: Architectural Assistant with urban design skills

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Architectural Assistant to join the  fast-growing team at Human Nature as we look to expand our in-house design capacity to work alongside our extensive external team of architects and engineers.

About Human Nature

Human Nature is a campaigning development company with a strong urbanism and design sensibility. We are committed to creating a new generation of remarkable neighbourhoods which nurture local communities and offer a much-needed model of abundant, sustainable living.

We have recently achieved a major planning milestone for our flagship Phoenix project – a large and complex mixed-use urban neighbourhood comprising 21 residential blocks, beautiful, low-traffic, green streets, carefully curated community and commercial uses.

Our internal design team is instrumental in both the vision and masterplanning process for all our projects. Early and extensive engagement with local communities and a process of deep collaboration with our external teams underpin the development of all our projects from inception through to delivery.

To guide and support the masterplanning process, we undertake detailed studies at urban, building and interior scales. We commission, and write briefs for, external architects and consultant teams and act as design managers throughout the process. The in-house team also provides full architectural services for some projects.

About the role

We are looking for a Part II level Architectural Assistant with urban design and masterplanning skills. Recently qualified Part III architects will also be considered. The role will include undertaking feasibility and masterplanning work primarily at RIBA Stages 0-3 but also strategic and detailed design studies for the Phoenix project and work developing our building systems and typologies.

We are looking for people with determination and initiative, who work well in a team, and who are flexible, focused and responsive enough to tackle a wide range of design challenges.

The role will also involve supporting the wider Human Nature project team, for example producing high-level vision documents and strategic studies, programming and viability modelling, preparing research, and collating data, graphics, presentations and reports.

Human Nature Places is based in Lewes and we also have a London office. Our design team typically work two days a week in Lewes and three days in London, though this is flexible and working from home is also possible.

Salary: depending on experience

How to apply: Please send your CV and short-form portfolio to recruitment@humannature-places.com before 14 June 2024

For data protection reasons, please note we will assume we have your permission to keep these on file during the recruitment process. We aim to reply to everyone but if we have a large number of responses this may not be possible.

Human Nature is an equal opportunities employer and we welcome applications from all backgrounds. We are committed to attracting a diverse workforce and offer equal opportunities at all stages.
